Taylor Rail Australia is a long-term specialist rail construction partner for the Metropolitan Roads Program Alliance (MRPA), supporting the Victorian Government’s ambitious $17.3 billion Level Crossing Removal program. MRPA has been contracted to eliminate seven at-grade level crossings across metropolitan Melbourne, improving safety, reducing congestion, and enhancing transport connectivity.

Taylor Rail has been the exclusive rail alliance partner for the Major Road Projects Authority (MRPA) since February 2019, supporting the delivery of Melbourne’s Level Crossing Removal Program. Their role includes feasibility studies, TOC (Target Outturn Cost) development, design guidance, and full delivery of rail and overhead traction infrastructure. To date, Taylor Rail has contributed to level crossing removal projects valued at over $860 million, including completed works at Evans Rd, Clyde Rd, Cardinia Rd, South Gippsland Hwy, Robinsons Rd, and Fitzgerald Rd. Projects currently under construction include Brunt Rd and Camms Rd, while TOC development is underway for Calder Park Dr, Holden Rd, Station St (Officer), and Maidstone St.

All works are delivered during rail occupations, with signalling completed by alliance partner MTM. Solutions have included both rail-over-road and rail-under-road designs involving significant structural works.

    Key Achievements:

    • Specialist Capability: Provided end-to-end rail services, including construction, overhead traction, and demolition.
    • Alliance Collaboration: Supported MRPA in delivering a high-value, multi-level infrastructure project under a Program Alliance model.
    • Strategic Impact: Contributed to the removal of seven level crossings, significantly improving safety and traffic flow across Melbourne.
