Glenlee Intermodal Expansion Project
"Taylor Rail worked seamlessly with our in-house earthworks team, delivering an exceptional outcome at Glenlee Terminal."
John Borg - Managing Director, Borg Corporation
Client: Borg (Cross Muller)
Location: Greater Sydney, NSW
Duration: April 2022 - April 2023
Value: $5 Million +
Contract Type: Construct Only
The Glenlee Intermodal Expansion Project involved comprehensive rail works to support the development of Borg’s freight terminal, anchored by Aurizon. Taylor Rail Australia (TRA) was contracted to manage the demolition, procurement, construction, resurfacing, and commissioning of rail infrastructure within a busy operational freight logistics centre. Despite the non-occupation environment, TRA successfully delivered the works with no unplanned disruption to the Glenlee freight hub, including reconstructing the connection to the ARTC mainline.
TRA collaborated closely with Borg’s in-house civil team and rail designers, contributing value-engineering solutions to optimise rail alignment and ensure effective drainage. The project scope included removing and stockpiling 3,350m of existing track, constructing 4,100m of new Class 1 ARTC track using MDFC sleepers and 60kg/m rail, and completing over 500 aluminothermic welds. Additionally, seven turnouts were supplied, constructed, welded, and resurfaced, while repair works for the ARTC mainline connection were performed to meet ARTC Construction Standards. TRA also installed new walkways and continues to provide routine maintenance for the site on behalf of Aurizon.
TRA’s meticulous planning, including targeted pre-planning and risk modeling, ensured seamless execution during possession windows. The deployment of TRA-owned resurfacing equipment and rail crews provided certainty of supply and efficiency. These practices reflect TRA’s capability to deliver large-scale projects, as demonstrated at Glenlee and anticipated for the Kewdale Container Freight Terminal in WA.
