The Ivanhoe Rail Siding Facility was developed to enable Tronox to transport heavy mineral concentrate (HMC) from its expanded Atlas mine. Taylor Rail, in partnership with TRYIF, was contracted to deliver the project, which included the construction of a new rail siding and its connection to ARTC’s East-West mainline. The works were carried out with no disruption to ARTC’s operational track, ensuring continuity of service.

Taylor Rail’s scope involved managing all site facilities, including power, fuel storage, construction water storage, and camp provisions. The team cleared access roads and prepared the site, which included constructing a 250m x 70m hardstand, a 3.3km mine haul road, and stormwater drainage systems. In addition, 2588m of new track was laid, including turnouts, walkways, level crossings, and arrestor beds. Taylor Rail also managed the transportation and stockpiling of all rail, ballast, and pavement materials and ensured compliance with geotechnical testing and safeworking protocols.

By self-performing all civil and rail work, Taylor Rail successfully reduced project costs while completing the project three months ahead of schedule, enabling Tronox to begin operations without delay. The project was delivered on time, within budget, and to the client’s satisfaction, demonstrating Taylor Rail’s commitment to quality, safety, and operational efficiency.

    Key Achievements:

    • Reduced project costs by resurrecting a local quarry.
    • Completed works with no disruption to ARTC’s main East-West track.
    • Connected to the ARTC mainline with SJM, Kewdale’s nominated signalling partner.
